Here are the materials you'll need to make this wreath: cutter of paper (preferably a slide cutter or guillotine cutter) scissors double-sided tape, foam wreath (1.4′′ x 9.8′′) decorative paper in.
Step-By-Step Tutorial
Here are the materials you will need to make this wreath:
- Scissors
- Two-sided tape
- Foam wreath (1.4″ x 9.8″)
- 14 Straight pins with ball heads
- A variety of coloured decorative paper (7 colours in total)
- Cutter of paper (preferably a slide cutter or guillotine cutter)
Guidelines:
- Begin by cutting down your paper strips. Each strip should be 1 inch wide by 12 inches long. Depending on the size of your wreath form, you'll need anywhere from 20 to 30 strips of each colour.
- You'll start by making accordion folded "snakes" with one colour at a time.
How to Fold an Accordion:
- Begin with two strips of the same colour.
- Strip 1 should be placed vertically on the surface.
- Place strip 2 horizontally on top of strip 1 and secure with double-sided tape.
Begin by folding the strips back and forth over each other in the order listed below:
- Step 1: Fold up strip 1
- Step 2: Fold strip 2 left
- Step 3: Fold strip one in half
- Step 4: To the right, fold strip 2.
- Repeat steps 1-4 until you've used up all of your paper strips.
- Remove any excess paper with scissors and secure the loose flap with double-sided tape.
- Continue making these with the remaining one-color strips and connecting them with double-sided tape to form one long'snake.'
- When stretched out, each snake should be about a yard long.
- Rep this procedure for each additional colour (i.e. orange, yellow, green, blue, purple, pink)
- You should have a total of seven snakes.
- Use only one colour at a time.
- Attach the snake's tail to the wreath with a straight pin.
- Begin winding the snake around the wreath form, making sure that each rotation is snug against the previous one.
- When you've finished one colour, use a straight pin to secure the end to the wreath.
- Rep these steps with each colour until all 7 snakes wrap around the wreath form.
Remember:
You may need to make adjustments to fit all of the paper onto the wreath; the goal is for the accordion folds to nestle into each other so that no white foam is visible.
Your finished product should look something like this:
This wreath can be hung on your door or used as home decor. Change the colours of your paper according to the season, or make a graduation wreath using school colours. The options are limitless!
